Dr. Matt Tyler
Lead Pastor
I grew up in Hope Mills, N.C. ("Fayettenam"), in a Christian home with Godly parents who raised me to follow Jesus. I understood the gospel at an early age, but it wasn’t until I was in college that I saw the seriousness of my sin and trusted in Jesus as my Lord and Savior.
I always wanted to be a police officer, so following college, I went to work for the Mt. Pleasant Police Department. While preparing for the police academy, I met my wife, Laura. It was clear from the start that she would be my wife, and just over a year after we met, we were married. Our first years of marriage were spent pursuing the “American dream,” but it didn’t take long for God to show us He had different plans. Laura and I felt the Lord calling us “further up and further in,” so we sold our house, quit our jobs, and attended a bible college in preparation to serve as missionaries. Since then, we have served as missionaries, I finished my M.Div (Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary), I served as an Associate Pastor, received a D.Min in Expository Preaching (Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary), and I have been on staff at FBC Mt.Pleasant since 2016.
Laura and I have been married since 2003 and have two lovely daughters attending Clemson University (GO TIGERS!). I enjoy adventuring with my family, surfing, listening to bluegrass music, Reformation theology, and working out.
